1931 – 2014
AUBURN — George R. Jones, known as Dick, 83, of Lewiston, died at the Hospice House on Monday, Sept. 1, surrounded by his loving family after a short illness.
He was born in Gray to Hector Felix and Dora (Provencher) Jones on June 8, 1931. His early, formative years were spent in a one-room schoolhouse accompanied by his three siblings. The family moved to Lewiston, where he graduated from Lewiston High School with his older brother and younger sister in 1951.
After high school, he joined the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in the Panama Canal zone. Upon his return in 1955, he met and married the love of his life, Ruth Auclair, on May 30, 1958.
George was a route salesman for Country Kitchen for 35 years. After his retirement, he focused his attention on being a loving pepere to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth; and two daughters, Susan and her husband, Michael Kovalchik, of Morris, Conn., and Rachel and her husband, William Flagg, of Londonderry, N.H.; five grandchildren, Benjamin Pilgrim of Silver Spring, Md., and Jordyn and Ryan Leo and Gabby and Billy Flagg, all of Londonderry, N.H.; his sister, Constance (Lawrence) Dudzic, of Lewiston; and two brothers, Paul of Attleboro, Mass., and Lionel (Laura) of Cromwell, Conn. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, for whom “Uncle Dick” will always be their favorite uncle.
