1966 – 2014
ROCKLAND — Barry George Hathaway Jr., 48, of Wilton, the son of Barry and Barbara Hathaway Sr., of Wilton, went home to the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 31, and will be missed by his parents; his sister, Capt. Brenda Grace Thomas; and nephew, Kai, and niece, Kamea, of Rockland.
He was born on July 28, 1966, to Barry and Barbara Schanck Hathaway in Farmington. Barry was a 1984 graduate of Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro, where he played the trumpet in the band and was in the chess and computer clubs. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, fifth battalion, and trained at Fort Jackson, S.C.
He was skilled in computers, achieving an A-plus certification and was a webmaster. He operated Hathaway Specialty Merchandise Online Superstore and Hathaway Import and Export. He also worked as a shoe-maker, auto mechanic, in construction and as a retail supervisor at Nautica. Barry was an accomplished cook aboard the Isaac H. Evans. He loved to play the guitar, as well as teach guitar.
He was a Christian and loved his family, who loved him with all their hearts. Barry enjoyed fishing, camping, rock collecting, family reunions and helping out other people.
Barry was the grandson of Thronald and Iva Hanson Hathaway and Hilary and Agnes Pressery Schanck. He was predeceased by his grandparents; an uncle, George Guppy; cousin, Keith Lemieux; uncle, Joseph Ernest Lemieux; uncle, Duane Hathaway; and aunt, Thelma Schanck Lemieux.
He is survived by his parents; a sister, Brenda Thomas; nephew, Kai Thomas, and niece, Kamea Thomas, of Rockland; aunt, Marcia Hathaway Donald and husband, John, of New Sharon; aunt, Shanda Hathaway Parlin and husband, David, of Charleston; aunt, Lillian Guppy, of Wilton; uncle, Vernon Schanck and wife, Pat, of Farmington; and three great-aunts, Thelma Pressey Kendall of Sumner, Ruth Hanson Lloyd of Lincoln and Minnie Hanson Field of Stratton; plus numerous cousins.
