1960 – 2014

AUBURN — Norman Leroy Stairs, 54, of Maple Hill Road in Auburn, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, Aug. 30.

He was born in Belfast on Jan. 28, 1960. He grew up in Lewiston, attended Lewiston schools and married Cathy Tardiff in 1983.

Norm worked at Benson and Sullivan, followed by Central Maine Medical Center for many years, until becoming disabled due to a car accident in 2001. More recently, Norm impacted the real estate world by assisting the Meservier and Associates team with its large mailings and other office tasks. He enjoyed his time in the office or bringing work home, doing all with his sense of humor and sweet spirit, and didn’t stop until the job was done!

Norm was a member of the New Auburn Social Club. He fully enjoyed the simple things in life, like hunting, fishing, watching sports — especially New England Teams and NASCAR races.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing the lottery and buying scratch tickets, and never gave up the hope of winning big!

He will be remembered as a kind person who asked for little, made no demands and always expressed thanks for any kindness offered to him. Anyone who met Norm was entertained by his unique and humorous personality, forever known as “Normisms.” He certainly will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.

Norm is survived by the apples of his eyes, his daughter, Katie Stairs, and granddaughter, Paige Lessard; his ex-wife, Cathy Stairs; stepsons, Seth Chabot and Luke Coborn, and their families; father, Stephen Hardy and wife, Connie; mother, Marilyn McClellan and longtime friend, Alan Mooar; sister, Mary Ellen Taylor and husband, Robert Taylor; nieces, Jessica Hutchinson and husband, Randy, and sons, Randan and Jamison, and Jessica Rubashkin and husband, Paul, and daughter, Ellie; nephews, Paul Michaud Jr., Craig Michaud and Jason Dall; a special uncle and aunt, Henry and Nancy Davenport; cousins, Butch Davenport and companion, Wini, Sheryl Cotton and husband, Lloyd, John Davenport and wife, Micole; along with several other uncles, aunts, cousins and countless friends.

Norm was predeceased by his grandparents, Henry and Marjorie Davenport and Lionel and Gladys Hardy; brother, Terry Stairs; nephew, Nicholas Taylor; and longtime girlfriend, Laurie Colborn.
