FARMINGTON — Mooseville at 156 Main St. started a closing sale Thursday.
It will continue until the vast selection of moose-themed items and other merchandise is gone, owner Corey Ellis said.
“The mayor of Mooseville has termed out,” he said. “It’s time to move on.”
The store opened in May 2010. Ellis has run the business for 12 years, the last four in the former Mickey’s Hallmark space in Farmington.
Ellis formerly owned a store in Phillips and after closing it, put his Mooseville items, many Maine-made, on an online site.
“There’s over 10,000 moose-themed items,” he previously said. The inventory included socks, cards, knickknacks and stuffed animals.
Ellis said he may get back into retail in a year.
With help of a consulting firm from Kansas, Ellis sent invitations to people on his database inviting them and their friends to the sale a week before it’s advertised, Mark Chalman of Wingate Sales of Wichita, Kan., said.
Everyone is welcome to come in and shop, he said.
As Ellis waited on customers, Chalman signed them up for a closing sale prize contest. Customers earn points for visiting the store, no purchase necessary, and more points for purchases, he said. Weekly drawings will take place along with a final drawing of special prizes.
Wingate Sales helps businesses across the country close down, he said.
Everything, including the store fixtures and equipment, is for sale.
“This will be the largest sale in the history of the store … and the last,” Ellis said in the invitation.
