RUMFORD — Holy Savior School will hold its third annual Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the school.

A section of Maine Avenue will be blocked off, Jaime Arsenault of Rumford and the Parents & Teachers Helping Students Committee said Wednesday.

The event is for elementary school children, such as from Holy Savior School, which offers kindergarten through eighth-grade classes.

Arsenault said there will be pumpkin decorating and apple cider will be sold. Additional activities include “Touch a Truck,” where children can sit in the driver’s seats of large vehicles and race cars for photo sessions.

She said the new event features firetrucks, race cars, logging trucks, police cruisers and a few surprises. Children have to buy a bracelet to sit in the trucks for family pictures.

“What little kid does not love to get inside a firetruck and pretend to drive?” Arsenault asked.

The Touch a Truck event will be held in the school’s upper parking lot.

With a section of Maine Avenue blocked off, people will be able to walk safely to the upper parking lot from the lower parking lot, where other games and activities will be held.

Food sold by vendors is expected to include pizza slices, funnel cake, which Arsenault said is like a dough boy, popcorn, french fries, baked beans, baked goods and ice cream. There also will be music.

“It will be a fun day for all the kids to run around and get together,” Arsenault said.

Additionally, a raffle will be held for a ride on a monster truck.

The school will also hold a Scholastic Book Fair that continues Sept. 8 to 12. It’s not just for students. Parents, grandparents, friends and community members will have the opportunity to browse and purchase books.

A “Teacher’s Wish List” will also be available for anyone interesting in buying a book as a gift for their teacher. Profits from the book fair will be used to purchase new books for the school library.
