LEWISTON — The Great Falls Forum on Friday will feature Margaret McGaughey, appellate chief, U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine, speaking on “How to Raise a Dangerous Criminal.”

The lecture will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.

McGaughey has served as a federal prosecutor for the past 35 years, a job that has led to her professional involvement with a wide cross-section of Maine’s criminal offenders. As part of this work, she has had occasion to review numerous background reports containing detailed information on early family history and related factors, allowing her to identify some commonalities that exist in the upbringing of these offenders.

She will present her observations and also discuss her personal thoughts about how society might better protect children from some of the factors that too often lead young people into a life of crime.

Admission is free to all forum events and no reservations are required. Bring a brown-bag lunch; coffee, tea and bottled water will be available at the library.

The Great Falls Forum is co-sponsored by Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, Bates College, Lewiston Public Library and the Sun Journal. The library is at 200 Lisbon St. at the corner of Pine Street.
