Some 50 family and friends gathered in front of Dirigo High School to honor the memory of Tyla Thibodeau on Saturday, the day that marked his 17th birthday.
After singing “Happy Birthday” to Tyla, everyone released black and red (Tyla’s favorite colors) balloons into the air. At the same time, a tarp was removed, which covered Tyla’s Buddy Bench, in memory of Tyla, who was killed on Aug. 11, 2013 in a dirt bike accident in Carthage.
Tyla’s grandmother, Gerry Thibodeau, said the fundraising effort totaled more than $3,000. Doing the honors with her were three girls who played a major role in the effort with Gerry — Autumn and Abby Thibodeau, and Alayna Pingree.
Gerry presented certificates of appreciation to the different groups, people who assisted with the fundraising effort.
Following the dedication, there was a magic show in the high school, followed by a dance that was held in the parking lot by the town office.
