An old, stately Chinese elm tree near downtown Farmington came down Wednesday. Estimated at 150 years old and about 60 feet high by property owners Al and Rachel McDaniel, the tree in their yard on Perham Street was the last Chinese elm here, he said. The tree was infected with Dutch elm disease years ago but the couple have injected a fungicide to keep it alive for over 30 years. A light windstorm a few weeks ago brought down a large limb, prompting the couple to hire Deep Root Tree Service to take the tree down.
