LIVERMORE — New details were released Sunday by the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department in the deadly head-on collision on Federal Road (Route 4) on Saturday.

In the 12:07 p.m. accident that occurred about three-tenths of a mile south of the intersection of Norton Road, the release stated a 2000 Dodge Caravan driven by Thomas Ryan, 79, of Leeds was traveling south with passenger Gary Chadburn, 46, of Leeds.

At the same time, a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Matthew Bussier, 27, of Livermore was traveling north on Federal Road when, the release said, Bussier crossed the centerline, colliding with Ryan and Chadburn.

It appeared that Bussier had fallen asleep before crossing the centerline, the release stated.

Chadburn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ryan, the driver of the Dodge Caravan, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Bussier was also taken to Central Maine Medical Center, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic on Federal Road had to be detoured around the accident scene for more than five and a half hours while emergency personnel worked at the scene before reconstruction and cleanup could begin.

Federal Road was reopened at 5:45 pm.
