LEWISTON — A special session of the Great Falls Forum will take place at noon Thursday, Oct. 2, featuring Andrew Cyr, conductor of Metropolis Ensemble orchestra. His talk is titled “Renewing the Source: a New Model for Classical Music.”

The one-hour lecture will be in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St.

Grammy-nominated conductor Cyr is a leader in the rapidly growing contemporary music scene in New York City. His enthusiasm for connecting outstanding young musicians and composers to today’s audiences led him to create Metropolis Ensemble in 2006.

Through passionate performances, innovative programming and the fostering, commissioning and advocacy of emerging composers and performers, Cyr has developed a reputation for attracting new and diverse audiences to the world of classical music.

His orchestra, Metropolis Ensemble, has performed at some of the leading contemporary music venues in the U.S., including the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Carnegie Hall, Le Poisson Rouge and Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center.

Cyr is a native of Fort Kent and holds music degrees from Bates College (Class of 1996), the French National Conservatory (Etudes Supérieures) and Westminster Choir College.

He will be conducting the Metropolis Ensemble in a performance at Bates College’s Olin Arts Center on Thursday evening. For information on tickets for the free Bates concert, contact the college at 786-6135.

Admission is free to all forum events and no reservations are required. Attendees can bring a brown bag lunch. Coffee, tea and bottled water will be available at the library.
