SALEM — Junior forward Bri Damon tagged the only goal with 31:30 remaining in the second half to lift Buckfield to a 1-0 triumph over Rangeley in girls’ soccer action Tuesday.

The Bucks (8-2-1) and Lakers (5-3-1) engaged in a back-and-forth battle in the rain for much of the afternoon.

Damon, who made six saves while tending goal, shared some offensive duties for Buckfield. Nine minutes into the second half, she gained control of the ball at midfield and broke away for the game’s lone tally.

Edward Little 3, Messalonskee 3 (2OT)

AUBURN — Edward Little battled to a double overtime 3-3 tie with Messalonskee in girls’ soccer action Tuesday afternoon.

The Red Eddies (8-1-2) led 2-1 at the midpoint. Sarah Hammond, Emily Jacques and Lauren Berube posted goals for Edward Little.

Goalie Taylor Eastler made 10 saves for the Eagles (5-4-2), while goalie Molly Murray prevented 12 for Edward Little.

Maranacook 3, Leavitt 1

TURNER — Lillie McLaughlin scored two goals to propel Maranacook to a 3-1 victory over Leavitt in girls’ soccer action Tuesday.

Sarah Clough improved the Black Bears to a 2-1 lead midway through the first half as the ball trickled through the Leavitt defense.

The Hornets cut the lead in half early in the second half off a blast from Victoria DeCoster. McLaughlin squelched the Leavitt rally late in the half as the Hornets struggled to clear the ball.

Nokomis 2, Spruce Mountain 1

JAY — Makayla Kelley scored the opening tally and Nokomis benefited from an own goal to secure a 2-1 victory over Spruce Mountain in girls’ soccer action Tuesday.

The Phoenix evened the game at 35:44 in the second half as Kailee Newcomb beat the Nokomis keeper to a loose ball out front.

A Warrior defender accidentally deflected the ball into her own net late into the second half to give Nokomis the go-ahead and game-winning goal.

Mt. Blue 6, Skowhegan 0

FARMIGNTON — Junior forward Eryn Doiron tallied two goals and an assist to lead Mt. Blue to a 6-0 victory over Skowhegan in KVAC girls’ soccer action Tuesday.

The Cougars (3-5-2) scored the first goal of the game just three minutes prior to the midpoint for a 1-0 hafltime lead. Mt. Blue rattled off four goals in four and a half minutes midway through the second stanza.

Goalie Tadem Parker made 20 saves for the Indians (0-10), while goalie Addie Schanz prevented six to earn the win in net for Mt. Blue.

Boys’ soccer

Mt. Abram 4, Winthrop 0

WINTHROP — Four different players scored as Mt. Abram blanked Winthrop 4-0 in boys’ soccer action Tuesday.

The Roadrunners (8-2) led 1-0 at the half. Bryson Walker, Finley MacKay, Courtland Talmage and Sage Riendeau provided goals.

Goalie Matt Sekerak made 11 saves for the Ramblers, while goalie Tristen Dyer stopped three shots to earn the win in net for Mt. Abram.

Edward Little 3, Messalonskee 1

OAKLAND — Noah Perron scored the eventual game-winner just before halftime as Edward Little scooped up a 3-1 decision over Messalonskee in boys’ soccer action Tuesday.

Luke Sterling provided an insurance goal less than 10 minutes into the second half from the penalty spot for the Red Eddies.

Will Couture tallied a goal from close range down the stretch to prevent the shutout for the Eagles.

Mountain Valley 8, Dirigo 1

RUMFORD — Junior striker Curtis Steele posted two goals and an assist as Mountain Valley rolled to an 8-1 victory over Dirigo in a hometown rivalry in MVC boys’ soccer action Tuesday.

The Falcons (10-0-1) started out slow, scoring only one goal in the first 20 minutes. But Mountain Valley caged three tallies in the final four minutes of the half.

Kellen Martin collected the lone Cougar (2-8-1) goal to spoil the shutout.

Goalie Gavin Hebert made 15 saves for Dirigo, while Dakota Jacques repelled three for the Falcons.

Field hockey

Oxford Hills 3, Edward Little 0

PARIS — Senior forward Abby Angevine recorded a goal and an assist as Oxford Hils sailed to a 3-0 victory over Edward Little in field hockey action Tuesday afternoon.

The Vikings (7-4) led 2-0 at the half. Angevine scored the first goal on a feed from Erin Morton.

Goalie Karli Stubbs made 17 saves for the Red Eddies, while Shannon Fillebrown stopped four and Anna Huff stood guard in net for Oxford Hills.

Poland 4, Traip 0

KITTERY — Carly King notched a goal in each half as Poland coasted to a 4-0 victory over Traip in field hockey action Tuesday afternoon.

The Knights (8-4) were strong on offense, outpacing the Rangers (2-8-1) in shots on goal, 27-2. Mary Everett and Amanda Dube provided the first two goals of the game for Poland.

Goalie Tyalor Kashmere made 23 saves for Traip, while goalie Tia Lowndes deflected the two she faced to earn the win in net for Poland.

Mt. Ararat 5, Lewiston 3

LEWISTON — Eva Jerome had two goals and an assist to lead Mt. Ararat to the 5-3 victory over Lewiston in field hockey action.

Alyssa Curit had a goal and assist, while Porter Galvin and Madison Alexander each had a goal for the Eagles (2-10).

Kasey Talarico had a hand in all three Lewiston (1-11) goals as she had two goals and a helper. Ashlynn Belanger had the other tally for the Blue Devils.
