1938 – 2014

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Eddie R. Ray, 76, formerly of Lewiston, passed away on Aug. 14, in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Jan. 16, 1938, he was the son of Riley and Sarah Ray. He joined the U.S. Navy and served for six years.

He married Sandra Sabine on Aug. 21, 1982. He was employed as a police officer with the Lewiston Police Department for five years and owned a Shell station in Lewiston for many years. He retired from Auburn Motor Sales, where he worked for eight years, after which he retired and moved to Florida. In Florida, he loved his palm trees and the warm weather.

He enjoyed flying and had his pilot’s license, and he loved his Harley motorcycle and enjoyed riding with friends. He was a member of the Countryside Dancers for 12 years.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Ray, of Lewiston and formerly of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his children: three daughters, Donna Watts, Monica Sambataro and Diane Howitt and husband, Douglas; one son, Michael Ray and wife, Nila; their mother, Joan Turcotte; six grandchildren, Ryan, Hannah, Taylor, Alexa, Noah and Abigail; one great-grandson, Anthony Sambataro; stepchildren, Kim Braley and husband, Cliff, Kelly Goudreau and husband, Frank, and Keith Sabine; stepgrandchildren, Christopher and wife, Ashley, Erica, Kailyn, Makenzie, Kerrigan and Bailee; and one step-great-grandson, Elijah.
