DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am sending you an email on behalf of my mother, who is in need of dolls.

Recently two of her sisters were placed into nursing home/assisted living centers. She visits weekly and recently when she visited she brought one of her sisters a “baby doll.”

All of the people in the home were excited as she brought this doll with her to meals, etc. Now my mom is on a mission to provide dolls to several of these elderly patients who would love a doll.

So we are looking for dolls in good shape and willing to pay a nominal fee. We would like them to be baby size 15 to 17 inches. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Please call my mother, Myrtle, at 207-666-3904. — Daughter Sue

ANSWER: What a lovely idea! Sun Spots remembers her mother’s astonishment at how much her grandmother loved the giant teddy bear another relative gave her for Christmas. Perhaps it’s true that toward the end of our lives we all return to childhood and the things we loved then.

Anyone having jars they no longer want and would like to donate to WLU may call Doreen at 577-1784 or email womansliteraryunion@gmail.com.

The fair will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 25 at 19 Elm St., Auburn, and will include jewelry, baked goods, books, knit and stitch items, raffles and a café with coffee cake, cider, coffee and tea starting at 9 a.m. and a luncheon that will include hearty soups and homemade rolls and pies starting at 11 a.m.

I will be at Leavitt High School on Nov. 8, also at Clover Health on the 15th. I will mail one if anyone can’t make the fairs. — Faith Godin, Oxford, 539-1010, fegodin@yahoo.com
