LEWISTON — The Central Maine Medical Center Family Medicine Residency recognized seven third-year family medicine residents at its graduation program this summer.

Honored at the commencement exercises were family physicians Jaime Nemeth, D.O., Cathy Krouse, D.O., Preethi Rajanna, M.D., Sandhya Tagaram, M.D., Marc Seeley, D.O., Joanie Peter, M.D., and John Lowerey, D.O., Ph.D.

Donald Woolever, M.D., the residency program director, along with the Family Medicine Residency faculty, presented the graduates with their diplomas.

The Family Medicine Hospitalist Fellowship diplomas were presented by Claudia Geyer, M.D., fellowship director, and given to family medicine hospitalist fellows Deana George, M.D., and Talitha Sannes-Venhuizen, M.D.

The graduation ceremony was attended by the Family Medicine Residency faculty, residents and residency staff, hospital and office-based CMMC physician teachers, family doctors who serve in the Family Medicine Center as preceptors for residents and medical students, as well as graduating residents’ families and special invited guests.

Nurse practitioner Jackie Fournier was invited by the residents to give the commencement address. CMMC President Tina Legere also congratulated the graduates. Deborah Taylor, Ph.D., served as graduation mistress of ceremonies.

Several awards were made during the ceremony. The Dr. Bruce Johnson Residency Teacher of the Year Award was given to Edmund “Ned” Claxton, M.D. This award honors the physician who, as voted by the graduating senior residents, made the most outstanding contribution to their family medicine residency education.

Lewiston: Faculty Teacher of the Year, Bruce Kenney, D.O.; Hospitalist of the Year, Scott Cyr, D.O.; Community Preceptor of the Year, Norman Guay, D.O.; Mentor of the Year, Elizabeth Rothe, M.D.; Second-Year Family Medicine Resident of the Year, Erik “Seth” Kramer, D.O.; First-Year Family Medicine Resident of the Year, Gregory Thibodeau, M.D.; Family Medicine Center Nurse of the Year, Lorrie Champagne, R.N.; and Family Medicine Center Clinical Staff of the Year, Tina Thompson, medical assistant.

Swift River Rural Training Track: Rural Preceptor of the Year, Sean Callender, M.D.
