1924 – 2014

BOWDOIN — Vera Louise Allen, 90, of West Road died at her home Saturday, Oct. 11, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Lisbon Falls on Aug. 23, 1924, a daughter of the late William and Amy Taylor Wagg of Webster. She was educated in Lisbon Falls schools.

She was married to Raymond Allen in 1944 and raised her nine children on the Allen Farm on West Road in Bowdoin.

She worked at Colby Nursing Home, Odd Fellows Home, Lamp Nursing Home and Sableman Plastic Heel Co. She had her own catering and cake business. She loved crocheting afghans for babies, knitting, watching golf, “Jeopardy,” reading, word searches, playing cribbage, large family gatherings and traveling.

She was a member of West Bowdoin Baptist Church and president of the Ladies Aide, Nina Rebekah Lodge No. 86 for 53 years, a Past Noble Grand, a Past District Deputy President of District No. 3 and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary 202, Topsham. She was active in other civic and community organizations throughout her life.

She is survived by her nine children, Larry and wife, Theresa, of Bowdoin, Glen and wife, Mary, of Sabattus, Lyn and husband, Lee Jordan, of Bowdoin, Cheryl and husband, Norris Dwyer, of Bowdoin, Gail and husband, Roland Morgan, of Bowdoin, Charles and wife, Shirley, of Bowdoin, Melanie Page of Bowdoin, Joel and wife, Darlane, of Bowdoin, and Tracy Newman of Bowdoin; 26 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Raymond Allen; and her brothers, William, John and Howard Wagg.
