1949 – 2014

AUBURN — Mary Witten (Pepin) Belanger, 65, of Manchester and formerly of Auburn, went to her Heavenly home on Saturday, Oct. 11, after a short battle with cancer.

Mary was born in Bangor in 1949 to the late Elmer and Charlotte Witten. She was raised on Minot Avenue in Auburn and was a graduate of Edward Little High School. Mary was an employee of Wal-Mart in Auburn for 15 years and Wal-Mart in Augusta for seven years.

Mary was an avid Gospel musician, having been involved in several organizations to share her love of the Lord through her music. Though she could not read sheet music, she played the piano, guitar, Hawaiian guitar and banjo, and was just learning the mandolin.

She was a lifetime member of the DownEast Country Music Association, the Maine Academy of Country Music and the Maine Country Music Association. She was a member of The Salvation Army in Lewiston since 1962, was youth leader for several years and continued to support the organization throughout her life.

She is survived by her husband, Maurice Belanger, of Manchester; daughter, Wanda Brann and husband, Scott, of Hoover, Ala.; grandsons, Henry North and Zachary North of Hoover, Ala.; and a stepdaughter, Serena Belanger, of Lewiston. Mary is also survived by her sister, Connie (Witten) Campbell, of Shelby, N.C.; brothers, Earl Witten and companion, Kelly, of Bancroft and Paul Witten and wife, Lynn, of Auburn; and an array of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary was predeceased by her parents; husband, Lionel “Ray” Pepin; sister, Laura LeClair; nieces, Janice Campbell, Christina Witten and Patti Jo Sukeforth; and grandmother, Mary Quimby, of Lewiston.
