In the recent Poland candidates forum, I was disturbed to see state Sen. John Cleveland repeatedly misrepresent his voting record.
Cleveland said he voted against legislation that would kill jobs and hurt the call center industry. But he did not mention that he later changed his mind and voted for it.
Cleveland said he voted for legislation to protect the private information of gun owners. But he did not mention that was only a temporary measure. He later voted against legislation to make the change permanent.
Cleveland said he voted for legislation to make it illegal to spend welfare dollars on alcohol, cigarettes and gambling. But he did not mention that he only voted for a watered-down, toothless version of the bill, which had no penalties for offenders.
The public does not need more flip-flopping politicians in Augusta like Cleveland representing them with half-truths.
