MEXICO — A Rhode Island woman was injured early Tuesday evening in a three-car accident on Main Street, police said.
Danielle Lapre, 21, complained of head and neck injuries and was secured on a backboard by a Med-Care Ambulance crew, placed on a gurney and taken to Rumford Hospital.
The accident happened at 5:22 p.m. as light rain fell.
Mexico police officer Eric Bernier said a 2014 Toyota 4Runner, operated by Charlotte Louvat, 60, of Rumford, was stopped next to Dick’s Restaurant. Stopped behind the SUV was a 2001 Mazda Protege operated by Benjamin Parker, 24, of Bethel. Lapre was his passenger.
Bernier said Nicole Russell, 75, no address given, was driving a 2008 Dodge Avenger and failed to realize both vehicles were stopped in traffic. He said the Dodge struck the back of the Mazda, pushing it into the rear bumper of the 4Runner.
There were no other injuries.
Bernier estimated damage to the Avenger and Toyota at $800 each and $3,000 to the Mazda, which had front- and rear-end damage. All were able to be driven from the scene.
Mexico firefighters helped Med-Care with Lapre and directed one-way traffic around the scene for about 30 minutes.
