AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library will host a workshop on memoir writing with four acclaimed authors at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, at the library.

Authors Helen Peppe, Richard Hoffman, Ann Hood and Suzanne Strempek Shea will open with a panel discussion about memoir writing to be followed by a question and answer period.

Helen Peppe’s “Pigs Can’t Swim” takes place in the Auburn area and has been described by author Debra Marquart as a “bracingly honest account of a troubled rural childhood inside a large New England family forced to scratch out a borderline existence on the poverty line in the last house on a dead end country road.

New York Times bestselling author Ann Hood has recently released the novel “An Italian Wife.” A native of Rhode Island, Hood has produced novels such as “The Obituary Writer,” “The Knitting Circle,” and “Somewhere off the Coast of Maine.” She has won two Pushcart Prizes, two Best American Food Writing Awards, Best American Spiritual Writing and Travel Writing Awards, and a Boston Public Library Literary Light Award.

Richard Hoffman is the author of the memoir “Love and Fury.” The memoir recounts his father’s diagnosis with a terminal bone marrow disorder, his son’s unexpected return home after missteps at university, and his unwed daughter’s decision to carry a child to term.

Suzanne Strempek Shea is the author of five novels, including “Selling the Lite of Heaven,” and “Hoopi Shoopi Donnam,” and three memoirs. The winner of the 2000 New England Book Award, which recognizes a literary body of work’s contribution to the region, Shea began writing fiction in her spare time while working as reporter for the Springfield (Massachusetts) newspapers and The Providence (Rhode Island) Journal.
