This is Doiron’s fifth book in the Mike Bowditch series, which follows Bowditch after resigning his position as a Maine game warden following a family tragedy. His tranquil life as a fishing guide in the North Woods quickly comes to an end when his mentor, Sgt. Kathy Frost, is forced to kill a troubled war veteran in an apparent case of “suicide by cop.” Characteristic of all Doiron mysteries, there is much more to the story than what is first revealed in the plot.
