The Sept. 26-28 dry and sunny weather was perfect for outdoor recreational activities for all ages. Statewide, the Great Maine Outdoor weekend hosted over 125 events via 80 event organizers, and involved over 8,000 participants outdoors in Maine. Locally the Western Foothills Land Trust held five outdoor events involving over 100 hikers, kayakers, runners, walkers and athletic canines. Autumn trails in Buckfield, Waterford, Greenwood, and Norway were used as well as the waters of Lake Pennesseewasee. The dates of Feb. 13 to 15 are set for the 2015 Winter Great Maine Outdoor Weekend and the annual snowshoe wife-or- whoever carry will be held at Roberts Farm Preserve. Kayakers are pictured at Witt Swamp.
