PERU — A Rumford man who was injured in a car rollover Tuesday night was in serious conditon at Central Maine Medical Center on Thursday night, a nursing supervisor said.

Jesse Bates, 22, of Rumford suffered injuries to his head, chest, abdomen and legs when he was pinned underneath the Dodge Stratus driven by 18-year-old Cody Blouin of Peru, officials said. He was flown to the Lewiston hospital and initially listed in critical condition, officials said.

Passenger Ryan Lemay, 21, of Peru, was ejected from the car. Blouin got out of it on his own, police said.

Oxford County Sheriff’s Deputy George Cayer said Blouin was driving south on Route 108 at a high rate of speed when the car crossed the centerline, left the road, went airborne and flipped end over end for about 300 feet before landing upside down. The engine was ripped out of the car, he said.

Cayer said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash and none of the men were wearing seat belts.
