LEWISTON — Drug agents searched a room at a Lewiston motel Friday, seizing more than $30,000 worth of crack cocaine and arresting a pair of New York men.
Armed with a search warrant, agents swept through room 219 at the Super 8 Motel where police said they confiscated 290 grams of crack, marijuana, $1,200 in cash and items related to drug trafficking.
Arrested were 23-year-old Joshua Bonnett and 22-year-old Marquis Aiken, both of Brooklyn. The men were charged with aggravated trafficking in crack cocaine and taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
The men had been staying in the motel room, police said. On Friday night, each remained jailed on $25,000 cash bail.
The drugs recovered from the motel room, police said, have a street value of between $30,000 and $35,000. Agents also seized packaging materials and scales.
The arrests came after the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency had been investigating drug trafficking out of area motels, an investigation that is ongoing, officials said.
Police said Aiken is known to MDEA agents in Lewiston from a previous felony drug arrest during a summertime “Hot Spots” operation. That case is pending.
