FARMINGTON — Police said an Industry man was charged with drunken driving after his truck hit a utility pole, knocking down lines, and a tree on Perham Street late Tuesday night.
Jeremy Lane, 38, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet pickup east when it struck the pole and tree in the vicinity of 129 Perham St. at about 11:53 p.m. Tuesday, Farmington police secretary Bonnie Pomeroy said.
When Farmington officer Ryan Wagner arrived at the scene, residents said a man in a red pickup truck drove away from the crash.
The pole held a yellow flashing light alerting motorists of the school zone around W.G. Mallett School, Sgt. Eddie Hastings said.
A vehicle matching the description of the one that left the scene was found on Industry Road by Hastings, and Lane was nearby, Pomeroy said. He was bleeding around his nose and mouth but refused medical treatment, according to Wagner’s report.
Lane apparently continued driving up Perham Street, crossed Fairview Avenue onto Middle Street, and followed it to the intersection with Industry Road, Hastings said. He was found at the intersection with Weeks Mills Road.
Lane failed a sobriety test, was arrested and taken to Franklin County Detention Center, Pomeroy said.
The damaged truck had to be towed.
Members of Farmington Fire and Rescue and NorthStar Emergency services responded to the scene.
