Volunteers restoring the Litchfield Academy building were honored for their efforts Friday by state legislators and other officials. In restoring the Academy building, Litchfield residents are taking stock of their heritage and making the most of their proud history. Maine Street ’90 Director Ann Marden said the continuing renovations to the building demonstrate the accomplishments possible when residents work together. She cited the rehabilitated belltower and front facade of the building as particularly outstanding work. Litchfield’s efforts center around ongoing restoration of the Litchfield Academy Building, which was built in 1852 and served as a school until about three years ago. Since early September, volunteers have been removing deteriorated clapboards, insulating the building, and replacing and painting new clapboards.
