1934 – 2014

GLENDORA, Calif. — Julius “Bud” Jean, 80, passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, at his home in Glendora, Calif., surrounded by his caring family.

Born Aug. 19, 1934, in Lewiston, he attended St. Dominic High School in Maine and St. Michael’s College in Vermont before moving to California in 1958.

Bud was employed by Pantry Markets for more than 30 years, where his strong work ethic was widely recognized as he was quickly promoted to director of the largest store in the chain. He received many commendations and awards for his work with Pantry Markets.

An avid skier in his youth, he loved to spend his free time outdoors. His family and friends have many great memories of days spent with him at the beach or in the mountains. Never one to turn down a trip to Las Vegas or a good game of cribbage, he was an asset to any gathering with his lively stories and quick wit. Having grown up in a musical family, he enjoyed playing the piano and always appreciated good music.

Bud is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Joanne Jean; his children, Susan Jean Waguespack (Doug), Michael Jean (Laurie), Gerard “Gerry” Jean, Jennifer Newcombe (Gregg), along with his children by marriage, Candace “Candy” Nelson, Robert “Bobby” Readhimer III and William “Bill” Readhimer; his brother, Gerard Jean (Marilyn); his first wife, Florence “Flo” Jean; and a host of loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, Gerard (Sr.) and Marguerite “Mimi”; and sister, Constance “Connie” Morin.

Bud was a POW and decorated veteran of the Korean War. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 755.
