WILTON — Police said a local man faces a drunken driving charge after his car went off Morrison Hill Road, hit a culvert, sheared off a telephone pole and struck a mailbox early Wednesday morning.
Nicolas A. Messier, 21, was driving his 2006 Toyota Camry in East Wilton just before 1 a.m., police Chief Heidi Wilcox said. Messier was bleeding from a head injury suffered in the crash but refused medical treatment at the scene, she said.
Wilton officer Andrew Hardy took Messier to Franklin Memorial Hospital for a check before taking him to Franklin County Detention Center. He was released from the center on $3,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 22, according to a jail officer.
A resident at the scene lost power and looked out to see a vehicle parked by the road with hazard lights on, Wilcox said.
The vehicle was a demolished, she said. It was towed away by Dutch Gap Auto.
Members of Wilton Fire Department helped at the scene.
