Laird Bean’s letter, “Tired of leftist feminists” (Nov. 15), was simply another attack on a woman’s right to choose. Feminists are equally tired of the religious right claiming the authority to make decisions for them.

Obviously, having a baby is an awesome responsibility that requires planning, preparation, desire and money. It is not easy to raise a child on welfare. Babies have been known to suffer unthinkable treatment, even death. Contrary to Bean’s view, it is my belief that a fetus is not a child yet, any more than an egg is a chicken.

In Leonard Hoy’s letter, “Choose better information sources” (Nov. 17), he wrote that people must listen to Rush Limbaugh and Fox News, which are Republicans talking to Republicans and shooting arrows at the president.

I much prefer the variety and the topics of MSNBC, CNN, Channel 10, local news or Scott Pelley on CBS Evening News.

Thomas Shields, in his letter “Recommended improvements” (Nov. 18), made some good suggestions; however, I recall when the Oxford Casino was on the ballot there were a slew of young people who showed up on Election Day. They registered and voted. They wanted a job. The town manager (or city clerk) has the ability to check the residences. A photo ID is not necessary. A duel residence is the only potential for voter fraud that I see.
