Coach: Doug Gilbert (20th year)

Conference: Mid-State League Class: C

Last year’s record: State champions, third in league meet, 24-5 regular season

Returning athletes: Juniors — Griffyn Smith, Spencer Vaughan, Lucas MacDonald; Sophomores — Jon Flagg, Hunter White, Colin Woodhead, Bryce Whittemore, Tucker Barnett.

Key losses: Jesse Hutchinson, Julian Baldinelli, Jason Baldinelli, Torey Barnett.

Promising newcomers: Senior — Trevor McLeod; Sophomores — Jesse Piper, Ethan Bryant; Freshmen — Chase Thebarge, Jon Wainwright, Dalton Berry.

Season outlook: Dirigo won its first state title in seven years and is favored to repeat. The Cougars do have some holes to fill after graduating a state champion, Hutchinson, and with two weight classes still vacant. Smith moves up to 120 in pursuit of his third state title. Vaughan (170) and MacDonald (195) are back in the same divisions where they finished second in the state a year ago. Whittemore, White and Barnett also were Class C runners-up. The rookies are experienced after coming up through the youth program. Mountain Valley and Lisbon will be Dirigo’s best competition in the league, and Dexter is always a threat at the state meet.
