MECHANIC FALLS — Elizabeth “Betty” George Hackett, 89, of Mechanic Falls, died Friday, Nov. 28, at CMMC, after a brief illness.
She was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Norway to the late Helen and Giles George along with her twin brother, Robert. She lived in Norway until her teens, when the family moved to Mechanic Falls. Betty graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1943.
She married Parker H. Hackett of Minot on Jan. 19, 1946.
She was a teachers’ aide at Elm Street Elementary School until she retired.
Betty loved to play word games, painting, fishing in Wilson Mills and her time with family and friends. She was active in the Oxford Extension and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Mechanic Falls.
She is survived by her children, Bruce and his wife, Sandra, of North Berwick, David of Buckfield, Wayne and his wife, Mary, of Mechanic Falls and Brian and Beth Early of Mechanic Falls; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her twin brother, Robert George of South Paris.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Parker; and her siblings, Barbara Davis, Thomas George and Richard George.
