Kathy Jordan, Sheila Morrison and I freezing before the start of the Turkey Trot held in South Paris on November 2.

It’s that time of year when I put my hikers away and dig out my running shoes to keep active until there’s enough beautiful white stuff to head out on snowshoes. How many of you have been running? Are you out there for the fun of it? The exercise only? The competition with yourself, or has someone else been egging you on?
Well, whatever your reason, keep at it and remember, you’re strong! You’re amazing! And, you’re worth it!
A few weeks ago, I was happy to meet up with some local women over in South Paris for the Turkey Trot 5K. Beth Bellegarde put her game face on and finished in less than 29 minutes. Go, Beth!

You see, back when Beth and I ran the Downtown Dash in October, I passed her on the hills and she never caught up to me. I crossed the finish line by just yards ahead of her. So, when we met up in South Paris, she told me with a big smile that there were no hills and she was going to stay ahead of me.

I wished her my best, because I know how it is to be behind that one person you’re trying to get or keep ahead of and just cannot pull it off. Like Beth, I compete with myself and try to do better each time.
Well, that day, I watched Beth run ahead of me and that’s where she stayed. I had set my goal of finishing in less than 33 minutes and killed it in less than 30 minutes. I was very happy with myself.

Now, here we are looking at the next 5k, the Santa Hustle in Portland. This one should be a hoot to be apart of. My goal is to finish in less than 31 minutes this time. Of course, by the time you’re reading this, we will have completed it, but I am sure I will have had a great time and will beat my goal!

I wanted to share news of the next one I’ll be running, it’s the Jingle All the Way Run, being hosted by the Dixfield Wellness Center.

The date is Sunday, December 14 and it starts at 10. The first 25 adults registrants will receive a fashionable holiday headband. We’ve all been invited to dress in Christmas wear and we’ll all receive jingle bells to run with.
On that day, there will also be an open house for the wellness center from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. There will be a raffle for a free membership, a 50/50 drawing and gift certificates will be available. And, what run would be complete without free bottled water to quench your thirst and some food, healthy food, at that.

You can register at active.com or at the Wellness Center after 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.

Well, there you have it friends, will I be seeing you out training for the Jingle All the Way Run? Let me know what you’re up to so we can cheer one another on. Blessings and be well.
