SHAPLEIGH — Police were called to Owls Nest Road early Friday to investigate a report that a man had threatened a neighbor, but the suspect in question did not answer his phone so deputies waited more than four hours for him to leave his home to arrest him, according to a news release issued Saturday by the York County Sheriff’s Office.
Andrew Mayer, 46, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. Friday when he “came outside to walk his dog and was apprehended by awaiting deputies,” Chief Deputy William L. King Jr. said in the statement. “Several weapons were taken from the residence for safekeeping.”
York County deputies initially went to Mayer’s home at 10:45 a.m. after a neighbor said he was threatened with harm and learned that Mayer “is known to have weapons in the house,” King said.
Law enforcement made several attempts to contact Mayer on the telephone but were unsuccessful. Because another person was in the residence, deputies determined the safest course of action was to wait for him to emerge.
Mayer was arrested and charged with terrorizing. He was taken to York County Jail and was later released on $200 bail with the condition that he not have any contact with his neighbor. He is scheduled to appear in District Court in Springvale on Jan. 27.
