1928 – 2014

AUBURN — Katherine “Kathy” Viola Haines Colby Talbot was born in Etna on Dec. 23, 1928, to George Haines and Millie Hurlburt Haines. She went to Heaven peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 4, with family around her.

She spent most of her life in New England, with a short time in California and New York.

Kathy did many interesting things in her life. She was a housekeeper, town librarian, a talented seamstress, an avid gardener and flower arranger, administrative secretary, organizer of wedding receptions and other events and bookstore owner.

She took great pleasure in reading her Bible and wrote out daily prayer lists, especially praying for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kathy was an example of welcoming people into her life and treating all people equally.

She was a member of Free Grace Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her first husband, Fred Colby; their children, Jana Clum (Arthur), George Colby (Cathy), Karen Storman (Bill), Debbie Pastro (Jim), David Colby, Claudia Norton and Calvin Colby (Debbie); 25 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two stepchildren, Carol (Talbot) Tjerkstra and David Talbot.

Kathy was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Talbot.
