FARMINGTON — Police said a local man is accused of sexually abusing a girl younger than 18 during the past two years.

Farmington police Detective Marc Bowering said the victim reported the sexual contact and he began an investigation in mid-November. He later applied for a warrant and Massachusetts police picked up Ross Adams, 48, on the warrant.

He was brought to the Franklin County jail in Farmington and arrested Friday on a felony charge of unlawful sexual contact, Bowering said Monday.

A conviction on the charge carries up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Adams was being held without bail Monday morning until he goes before a judge.
