ORONO – A long-time member of the Orono Town Council announced last week she will not be seeking another term.
Lianne Harris, who has been on the council for 18 years, said last week’s council meeting would be her last official meeting, leaving a brief vacancy on the board until municipal elections are held in March. She will, however, be attending committee meeting for a couple more week.
Harris said she is getting donebecause she and her husband are moving to Tampa, Florida to become snowbirds. She said the years she served have been extraordinary times in Orono.
“There have been so many changes…it’s been an honor and privilege to have served the community,” she said, adding that she believes the current makeup of the council and staff is the best she has seen in terms of dedication in her years on the council. “It always was a pleasurable part of my life (to serve)…it doesn’t seem like it was a long time.”
Other councilors thank Harris for her service as well, saying she would be missed.
“She always was very gracious and helpful,” said Geoff Gordon.
