PARIS — Police said a Norway man wanted in Texas has been charged with choking and striking his girlfriend.

Jason Scott Taylor, 40, who was residing at a Maple Street apartment complex, was arrested by Norway police Officer Stephen Cronce around midnight Tuesday on a felony charge of aggravated assault and misdemeanor domestic violence assault.

According to an affidavit filed by Cronce, Taylor and a woman were involved in an argument Monday evening at a Lynn Street residence when he began choking her and she lost consciousness.

The altercation continued outside the apartment complex, where he punched the woman in the face and fled after she began calling for help, according to Cronce.

Taylor smashed the woman’s phone to prevent her from calling police and made threats to kill himself with a switchblade. Upon his arrest, officers found cut marks on his neck, according to the affidavit.

A neighbor reported the incident to police.

Taylor was arrested on a warrant, taken to the Oxford County Jail in Paris and made an initial appearance before a judge.

He is scheduled to appear in court March 3 and is being held without bail until a Jan. 20 extradition hearing. He is wanted for a parole violation in Texas, police said.

The woman was taken to a hospital with facial injuries and a broken finger. She was later released.
