Blood drive in Denmark on Dec. 29

DENMARK — The Denmark Arts Center will partner with Denmark’s own Hairy Business to sponsor a community blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Denmark Arts Center, 50 West Main St.

All donors will receive a free one-year membership to the Denmark Arts Center, a coupon for a free 6-inch sub from Subway, a free American Red Cross T-Shirt and entry in a Dunkin Donuts gift raffle.

Open house at Mechanic Falls library

MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Public Library has received 81 children’s books through a grant from the Libri Foundation in Eugene, Ore., Bill Strawbridge and Meg Wallhagen.

To celebrate the wonderful addition of these books to the children’s collection of the library, an open house is planned for 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29.

Events will kick off with story time, which will include a reading of the Caldecott Honor Book “Extra Yarn” by Mac Barnett at 9:30 a.m. followed by an arm knitting craft. There will be other readings and activities throughout the day.

The event is also an opportunity to see some of the changes that have taken place recently at the library, such as the new young adult room.

New Year’s Eve dance at Jay VFW

JAY — A New Year’s Eve dance will take place from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the VFW Post 3335 Hall, 64 Jewel St.

Music will be provide by Steve and the Good Ole Boys.

Snacks will be provided.

Cost is $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Tickets are available at the post home.

New Year’s dance at Paris Legion

PARIS — A New Year’s dance will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the American Legion Hall, 12 Church St.

Music will be provided by Jones Dance Band.

Cost is $20.

There will be refreshments, door prizes and a 50/50 raffle.

Red Hat Mommas Christmas party

Friendship Squares’ dance is Jan. 4

WILTON — On Sunday, Jan. 4, the Wilton Friendship Squares will host a square and round dance from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Cushing School.

The dance will be mainstream/mainstream plus. The caller will be Walt Bull. Carol Arsenault will be the cuer.
