1918 – 2014
AUBURN — Alexander Cote, 96, died peacefully Friday, Dec. 19, under hospice care, with his niece by his side.
Alex was born in Connors on April 8, 1918, the youngest child of Joseph and Emma (Danbois) Cote. His deceased brothers and sisters are Emmanuel, Levi, Jacques, Josephine, Philomen Denis and Lumina Capen.
He never married, but is survived by many nieces and nephews who reside all over the U.S.
He was raised in Lewiston and after the death of his mother, moved to Sabattus with his father. As an adult, he resided in Hartford, Conn., where he was a Connecticut Transit bus driver for 38 years. He was proud to have received two awards for not having any major or minor accidents and for being a reliable worker those many years.
Alex was a world traveler, even visiting a niece in Indonesia on his journeys. He toured every major continent and studied its history. He was a self-educated man and earned his diploma at night school, another accomplishment that brought him satisfaction. The stock market was one of his passions, for he loved studying the charts and poring over newspapers for tips.
His final years were spent with his niece, Arlene Lizotte, in Roseville, Calif. She enjoyed his stories and wit, along with some philosophical gems such as, “You know, wherever I put my foot on this Earth, I left a print for life.”
