ROCKLAND — A pedestrian was struck in a crosswalk on Christmas Eve.

Valerie Wells, 63, was crossing Park Street in a crosswalk near the intersection with Main Street, according to Rockland police. At the same time near noon Wednesday, a pickup truck heading north on Main Street attempted a left turn onto Park Street.

The motorist, Richard Morris, 54, of Wiscasset, had a green light, the department reported. The truck struck the woman.

Visibility was poor at the time of the crash because of heavy rain. The driver immediately rendered aid to the woman until she was taken by Rockland emergency medical services to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

The department reported that the woman’s injuries were not life-threatening.
