RUMFORD- Dixfield Discount Fuel has been providing a special to their customers for the last five years. They offer their customers a discount fuel rate in exchange for each toy they collect before Christmas for their annual toy drive. Even if you’re not a customer, you can donate and help one of their accounts receive the discounted price.
This year, they collected 26 gifts at their Route 2 office in Rumford, the most they have ever collected.
Most of the gifts were donated by friends that just wanted to pass on an act of kindness. Anna Brown and her sister-in-law, Sherri Brown, donated ten gifts themselves.
“For us here at DDF we are just so happy with what was given this years,” noted Katie Houghton. “Griffin Houghton was our little helper this year, being sure to tell everyone what we were doing as good deeds to lend a helping hand to kids that have less. He was so nice to help me carry them in the school. He was saying that he hopes this makes kids really happy.”
This year the gifts went to Rumford Elementary School and in the past they have been donated to the other schools in the area. DDF plans to continue the tradition.
“This really made us feel great about helping others,” stated Houghton. “It made everyone smile that came into the office seeing all the gifts piled up.”
