DEAR SUN SPOTS: Auburn-based Boy Scout Troop 121 will again be picking up Christmas trees in the cities of Lewiston and Auburn. While both of these cities provide locations for free tree disposal, they no longer collect the trees at curbside.

For a minimum donation of $5, the Scouts will pick up Christmas trees on the weekend of Jan. 10 and 11. Trees should be placed curbside the morning of Jan. 10.

To make a pick-up request, send your donation to Troop 121, United Methodist Church, 439 Park Ave., Auburn, ME 04210. The troop, in turn, will send you a tag to place on your tree when you place it curbside.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In 1992 BJ’s in Auburn sold a winter carnival decoration. It had an ice rink with skaters, trees, Ferris wheel, carousel and two gazebos. My mom and dad gave me one the last Christmas he was alive.

I dropped something on one of the carousels this week and broke it beyond repair. My grandson has loved watching this every Christmas, and I would love to give it to him with no missing pieces.

The only address I can find is for replacement lights. It is for Winter Wonderland light posts.

I am hoping someone has one sitting around that they don’t use any more. I am willing to buy the whole thing.

ANSWER: Sun Spots searched eBay for “Winter Wonderland carousel” and got a result, although she has no idea if it matches yours.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Recently there was a picture in the Sun Journal of the Department 56 Christmas village owned by the LaFontaines in Auburn. I have that same ski village, but it needs repairs. I am wondering if the LaFontaines or any else knows of someone who can fix it. — Nancy Stanley, 207-782-7870

ANSWER: Sun Spots looked up the photos to see if she could tell what they are made of. She’s not sure, but she guesses ceramics for much of it. Ceramics are difficult to repair and Sun Spots has only one potential source for that service in her Rolodex: Patty Doucette at 783-6709.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Some time ago, someone inquired about a clock he had that came from the Maine Central Railroad Union Station on Bates Street in Lewiston. I believe that clock was over the station master’s office in the lobby.

As a young watchmaker (1941-1943) at Wills & Hicks Jewelry Store, 94 Court St. in Auburn, I used to go to Union Station to get the correct time at the station master’s clock, as it was controlled by telegraph for accuracy.

The Sun Journal had notice of the passing of Bill Pellman. He and I were in the Class of 1941 at Lewiston High School.

Also, I would like to let the person who wanted to purchase my house on Jan’s Boulevard in Lewiston that it is now for sale, if he is still interested. I no longer have his name or contact information.

If I can be of any help with information of the past in the Lewiston-Auburn region please give me a call. I was a Boy Scout at the time of the flood in 1936, when the South Bridge was washed out, and during the hurricanes of 1938. I am also a veteran of World War II in Europe.
