DEAR SUN SPOTS: I love your column and hope you can help.

Country music star Jean Shepard wrote a book titled “Down Through the Years.” My daughter tried to order it online for me, but there are no more available. If anyone has a copy they would part with, I would gladly pay for it.

Also, my sister wonders if any store in this area still carries pickled pigs feet. I believe they were made by Armour, or possibly Hormel. Thanks. — Laurel, Auburn

ANSWER: Sun Spots went to Jean’s website, www.jeanshepardcountry.com, where she found a link to buy the book, but since every other site she found says it is out of stock, if you decide to try and make the purchase, be sure to use a credit — not a debit — card. That way if you don’t receive the book, you can get your money back through a dispute with the credit card company.

Sun Spots also found a newsletter Jean posted on her website last spring that said the book would be out in April and that sales would be managed by Larry’s Country Diner, but a trip to that website (www.larryscountrydiner.com/product/down-through-the-years-book) turned up a not-available link for the book. The Facebook page was full of requests, like Laurel’s, for any copy available. The phone number, 844-775-2665, is no longer in service.

It looks to Sun Spots as though the publisher failed to print enough books on the first run and so far has not run a second, although there was a Facebook post that said more would be coming in at the end of December.

As for the pickled pigs feet, Hormel does make some. Sun Spots went to the product locator on their website (www.hormelfoods.com/Brands/Product-Locator.aspx), which says the 9-ounce container is available at Walmart locally as well as at the Market Basket in Biddeford. You can also buy through their online store (hormelfoods.elsstore.com).

DEAR SUN SPOTS: This letter is in regards to learning to crochet and knit. I would be happy to teach her to crochet. I can knit but am more versed in crochet. — 782-8099

ANSWER: Sun Spots doesn’t recall any recent requests from readers wanting to learn to crochet. She did have a letter from someone looking for a daytime knitting group. And there is at least one. Read on.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: For the person looking for a daytime knitting group, contact the Patrick Dempsey Center, 207-795-8250 A group meets every Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. on the fifth floor, 29 Lowell St. See you there — RAC via email

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am writing to let you know that Mainly Sewing doesn’t have her sign out at 114 Western Ave. anymore, so I don’t think she is still there. I live just up the street and walk by frequently. The sign has been down for a couple of months. You might want to check her phone number to see where she is currently located. — Sheryl Mathews, Auburn

ANSWER: Sheryl is right. Mainly Sewing is no longer in business. Sun Spots called, and she said she closed because she didn’t get enough business. Sun Spots removed her from her Rolodex list of seamstresses. Thank you for writing.
