AUGUSTA (AP) — Gov. Paul LePage says that Maine teachers should be covered under one statewide contract, instead of each district creating its own contract.

The Republican governor said Wednesday that Maine’s education system is “upside down.”

LePage’s remarks came during his inaugural address on Wednesday at the Augusta Civic Center, where he took the oath of office to begin his second four-year term.

LePage said that Maine has twice the number of administrators per capita than any other state in the country.

He called it “morally wrong” that school administrators take home six-figure salaries and Maine teachers have to dig in their pockets to buy school supplies.
