1924 – 2015
TOGUS — Charles W. Larrabee Jr., 90, of Randolph, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Maine Veterans’ Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Durham on Aug. 12, 1924, a son of the late Charles and Martha (Wilkinson) Larrabee Sr. He grew up in the area and attended local schools.
Charles started work at a young age helping his family and later went on to own and operate his own construction business for over 40 years. He was also a very proud veteran of the U.S. Army who served during World War II, was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and was an honored Purple Heart recipient.
Charles served as road commissioner in Durham for 20 years and was also a lifetime member of the Durham Rod and Gun Club, AMVETS Post 13 and the Salvation Army.
On Oct. 28, 2000, he married Patricia Stellars following the loss of his first wife, Ellen Mae. He will always be remembered for his strong work ethic and his enjoyment of camping and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Randolph; his five children, William Larrabee and his partner, Liz Goodman, of Topsham, Cynthia Brock and her husband, James, of Tennessee, Martha Pessant and her husband, Donald, of Durham, Clifton Larrabee and his wife, Deborah, of Durham and Connie Jacques of Durham; four stepdaughters, Cindy St. Peter-Smith and her husband, Emery, Dawn St. Peter and her husband, Mike Peterson, Tracy St. Peter and Pam Brown and her husband, Eric; and two stepsons, Jeff and Rick St. Peter. He also leaves behind two sisters, Lillian McFarland of Fryeburg and Gladys Curtis and her husband, Brad, of Freeport; as well as 34 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Ellen Mae Larrabee, in 1999; a brother, Bobby; a sister, Vivian Brown; and a daughter, Charlene Mae.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff at the VA facility in Togus. Their dedication, compassion and devotion to Charles’ care in his final months was very comforting for them.
