JAY — Senior guard Nicole Hamblin poured in 18 points to lead Spruce Mountain to a comfortable 55-34 victory over Lincoln Academy in KVAC girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Phoenix (11-0) added to their margin in each quarter, leading 22-15 at the midpoint. Emily Keene contributed nine points for Spruce Mountain.

Sophomore guard Taylor Oliver and senior guard Bri Wajer tossed matching seven points each for the Eagles (8-3) in the losing effort.

Leavitt 42, Mt. View 35

THORNDIKE — Sophomore guard Abby Robertson drained 13 points to lead Leavitt to a 42-35 victory over Mt. View in KVAC girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Hornets (4-7) trailed until there was 2:16 remaining in the contest, when they turned up the offense for an 18-10 final frame. Chantel Eells contributed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman guard Sophie Gilbert pitched in with 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

The Mustangs (2-9) led by two at the half, but lost steam down the stretch. Sophomore guard Halle Reynolds tossed a team-leading eight points for Mt. View.

Boys’ basketball

Madison 73, Oak Hill 43

WALES — Mark Linkletter led the Madison Bulldogs with 13 points in the 73-43 victory over the Oak Hil Raiders in boys’ basketball action. The win improves their record to 10-1 on the year.

Devon Watt chipped in 11 points for the Bulldogs while Mitch Gervais and Chase Malloy each had ten points.

The Raiders (2-8) were led by Evan Boston, who had 13 points. Jonah Martin added 10 for Oak Hill.

Men’s hockey

UMass 3, UMaine 2

AMHERST, Mass. — The University of Maine men’s ice hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to UMass on Friday night.

Maine took a 2-1 lead into the third period, but saw the Minutemen score two late goals to earn the win. Maine got goals from defensemen Dan Renouf and Conor Riley.

Maine outshot UMass 37-22 in the game. The Black Bears were 0-for-2 on the power play, while UMass finished the game 0-for-3.

Sean Romeo made 19 saves in goal for the Black Bears and falls to 4-10-0. Henry Dill made 35 save in goal for the Minutemen and improves to 6-7-0.

Bowdoin 4, Hamilton 4

CLINTON, N.Y. — Tim Coffey scored twice in a span of nine seconds in the third period to rally the Bowdoin College men’s ice hockey team for a 4-4 tie at Hamilton on Friday evening.

The Polar Bears move to 7-2-2 with the deadlock while the Continentals stand a 3-4-4 overall.

The two-goal outburst was part of a hat trick for Coffey. Matthew Lison accounted for the other Bowdoin goal.

Brandon Willett scored twice in the first two periods as Hamilton opened up a 3-1 lead midway through the second frame.

Liston was able to trim the lead to 3-2 on the power play, but Robbie Murden’s sixth goal of the year gave the hosts a 4-2 edge heading into the final frame.

Coffey scored his second goal of the game at 10:38 of the third period and, off the ensuing face-off, Coffey put home the game-tying goal at 10:47.

Bowdoin garnered a power play in overtime but couldn’t find the game-winner. Max Fenkell stopped 33 shots for Bowdoin. Zach Arnold made 38 saves for Hamilton.
