Storytellers guild to meet Jan. 15

FARMINGTON — The monthly meeting of the WOODS (Western Order of Dedicated Storytellers) guild will be held on the third Thursday of every month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Farmington Public Library on Academy Street.

January’s meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 15, and will be held at the new location site, the Farmington Public Library.

All who are interested in storytelling are welcome. Telling is optional. Listening is welcome.

Longaberger basket bingo

GREENWOOD — Basket Bingo with Longaberger baskets will be hosted by the Woodstock Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Association on Sunday, Jan. 18, at Locke Mills Legion Hall, 595 Gore Road.

Doors open at 11 a.m. The first game will be at 1 p.m.

The cost is $10 in advance, $15 at the door for 16 games. Tickets are available at Woodstock School.

There will be door prizes, raffles and lunch options available.

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners at the Lewiston Armory on Jan. 5 were as follows: first, Paul Mitnik and Paul Sherman; second, Marta Clements and Cynthia Clifford; third, Larry Fortier and Rosemarie Goodwin.

Norway Historical Society membership meeting

NORWAY — The Norway Historical Society will hold its annual membership meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the society’s meeting room at 471 Main St.

In the event of inclement weather, the meeting will be held on Jan. 27 at 6 p.m.

The informal meeting will include reports of the society’s accomplishments and acquisitions in 2014, as well as information on plans for future activities and projects.

Tech Challenge to showcase students

PARIS — Oxford Hills Technical School has announced that the fourth annual Tech Challenge will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Tech Challenge is a showcase event in which students from 20 career and technical programs participate in skill-specific competitions and demonstrations for parents, community members and others. The activities will include cooking or baking specific recipes, a MIG welding contest and cookie cutting with chainsaws.

The event will begin at 3 p.m. and will be open to the public. An awards/medal ceremony will be held at 6:45 p.m.

Oxford Hills Technical School provides state-of-the-art career and technical training to students from Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School and Buckfield Senior High School.

Free weekly Loaves & Fish lunch

FARMINGTON — A free Loaves & Fish lunch will be held every Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through March 25 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Farmington Falls Road. All are welcome.

Community lunch, book swap planned

OTISFIELD — A free (donations accepted) community lunch and book swap will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21. For this month participants will meet at the Spurrs Corner Church on Route 121.

Raffle includes 2-year ski pass

FARMINGTON — One highlight of Sugarloaf’s Charity Summit this month is the drawing of an adult two-year nordic and alpine season pass at Sugarloaf, valid for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 ski seasons with no blackout dates.

All proceeds from Charity Summit events benefit Franklin Memorial Hospital’s Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center and the Maine Cancer Foundation.

Raffle tickets are $10 each or three tickets for $25. Tickets can be purchased at Guest Services at Sugarloaf and at www.sugarloaf.com/charity. The winner will be drawn at the Charity Summit Ball on Jan. 24. The lucky winner need not be present to win and can give the pass to someone else.
