Presentation on Maine wildflowers

WAYNE — Wayne’s Cary Memorial Library will present “Wildflowers of Maine” at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17.

Paul Johnson will give a slide show presentation on Maine wildflowers at the Cary Memorial Library.

Prior to retiring in 2005 Johnson worked as a fishery biologist for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife in the Moosehead Lake Region. In his travels throughout the region he was intrigued by the diversity of plant and animal life found in the Maine Woods. Over the years he attempted to capture in photographs the things he saw to share them with others.

His program will highlight some common, as well as some not so common, wildflowers found in Maine’s woodlands, wetlands and open lands.

Should inclement weather prevent safe travel on the 17th, the “snow date” for this program will be Jan. 24 at the same time and place.

Free weekly Loaves & Fish lunch

FARMINGTON — A free Loaves & Fish lunch will be held every Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through March 25 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Farmington Falls Road. All are welcome.

Check for school cancellations. If there is no school, there is no luncheon.

Raffle includes 2-year ski pass

FARMINGTON — One highlight of Sugarloaf’s Charity Summit this month is the drawing of an adult two-year nordic and alpine season pass at Sugarloaf, valid for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 ski seasons with no blackout dates.

All proceeds from Charity Summit events benefit Franklin Memorial Hospital’s Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center and the Maine Cancer Foundation.

Raffle tickets are $10 each or three tickets for $25. Tickets can be purchased at Guest Services at Sugarloaf and at www.sugarloaf.com/charity. The winner will be drawn at the Charity Summit Ball on Jan. 24. The lucky winner need not be present to win and can give the pass to someone else.
