TOPSHAM — Cathance River Education Alliance and the Topsham Public Library will host the next program in their monthly Community Nature Programs Series from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the Topsham Public Library, 25 Foreside Road.
Mt. Ararat Honors Biology students will present their long-term environmental research findings throughout the Cathance River Nature Preserve. Topics include vernal pools, forest inventory growth, mammals, water quality, invertebrate sampling, salamanders and deer yards. Students will be on hand to present their findings and answer questions from the public. Research was done with generous assistance from local scientists. This is a great opportunity to see Cathance River Education Alliance programs in action.
All interested members of the public are invited to attend. These CREA Community Nature Programs are free, family friendly, open to the public and held on the last Tuesday of each month. To find out more about CREA, visit www.creamaine.org or call 331-3202.
The CREA program on Feb. 24 at the Topsham Public Library will feature bobcat and Canada lynx. Project scientist Danielle Tetreau will present an informative program about bobcat and Canada lynx, discussing how these species are related, their life history, individual habits, habitat preferences and distinguishing characteristics.
Tetreau has conducted research throughout Maine and the Northeast and studied wildlife management in Kenya.
