Sermon: ‘Knowing the Mind of God’

PARIS — The Jan. 25 sermon at the First Universalist Church on Pine Street will be led by Silver Moore-Leamon. The title for the 10 a.m. worship service is “Knowing the Mind of God.”

Music is under the direction of Donna Hurd and Sunday School is under the direction of Renee Wales. Coffee and fellowship will follow the worship service and all are welcome. Childcare is available and the First Universalist Church is wheelchair accessible.

Lunch marks Souper Bowl of Caring

MEXICO — On Sunday, Feb. 1, the Mexico Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, will participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring. This is a nationwide program to help feel the hungry that takes place each year on the day that the National Football League’s Super Bowl game is played.

A potluck lunch of soups and chowders will be served in the church dining room at 11:30 and a social time enjoyed. Cash donations collected during the lunch will go to the GRAMPA Food Cupboard and the GRAMPS lunch.

The Board of Trustees of the church will hold their first meeting of 2015 on Monday, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m. in the Conference Room.

First Saturday Community Suppers

SUMNER — The Rev. Howard MacMullen, of the Congregational Church of East Sumner, invites the public to the First Saturday Community Suppers on Feb. 7 (annual winter picnic and barbecue) and March 7 (pasta night).

The meals include salads, breads, desserts and fun raffle items, and begin at 5:30 p.m. Donations are requested for the meal.

The season of Lent begins on Wednesday, Feb. 18, with an Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m.

The church is at 50 Main St., on Route 219.
