RUMFORD — American Legion Post 24 has announced recent information and activities.
The national commander, Mike Helm, recently shared the Legion’s new career platform in the current Dispatch Publication. He shares there is a new Web platform to help those who served in uniform translate their military skills to civilian job skills. This Web platform shares info for finding employment, starting businesses and making successful transitions into civilian life. The key features of this website include: veteran job search tool, videos, career fairs, links to sites supporting veterans, resume writing and more. It is encouraged that all Legion family members visit this site to become familiar with to and share it with veterans transitioning back in to their communities. There is a new dog tag honoring women veterans. It is available through the Emblem Sales. It is inscribed with “Women Proudly Served.” This dog tag and more can be ordered by visiting www.emblem.legion.org.
Those who have not paid membership dues are asked to do so. They are now past due. If not paid by Feb. 1, all of a member’s benefits will be lost.
The group welcomes all eligible veterans, sons or grandsons of veterans and mothers, daughters, granddaughters or sisters of veterans.
On Feb. 1 the Post will hold its annual Four Chaplains Ceremony. The ceremony is open to the public. It will begin at 3 p.m., with supper at 4 and the monthly membership meeting at 5. The meeting will end before kick-off time.
The public is invited to join for this very meaningful ceremony as the Post honors the sacrifices these brave men made for others.
Nominations for officers will be taken at the March 1 meeting. Elections will be held at the April 5 monthly meeting. Plan on attending these meetings if you are interested in becoming a Post 24 officer.
The by-laws are in need of a few changes, which will be highlighted in the annual newsletter that will be mailed soon. Members will discuss and vote on the changes that are recommended by the By Laws Committee at the April meeting.
The Post thanks everyone who has donated warm socks for the Warm Socks Campaign. Socks will be collected for homeless veterans up to the middle of March. I’l B Fit has offered to be a drop-off for these socks as well. Plans are for the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1044 in Sanford to pick up all that are collected.

Saturday, Jan. 31: pre-Super Bowl party begins at 2 p.m. Bring your favorite appetizer or dish to share. Members’ guests are welcome.
Friday, Feb. 13: Wings N Things from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and Shawna & The Mayberry Drifters from 7 to 11 p.m. There is a $5 cover charge for the music. Open to the public.
Sunday, Feb. 15: Mainly Creations A Gathering of Artist begins at 11 a.m. Open to the public. This will be the last show of the series.
Friday, Feb. 27: Mexican night from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and Dan’s Karaoke from 7 to 11 p.m. $12. Open to the public.
